We employ around 300 people operating within a total of 300,000 square feet of fully racked warehousing across our sites in Stafford, Glasgow, Darlington and Devon. We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic Health and Safety Officer for our Stafford Depot. Our Stafford depot includes vehicle maintenance facilities, warehousing, and has a pallet distribution network. The successful candidate should have experience and a working knowledge of these environments including chemical transport (ADR) or have an eagerness and aptitude to learn.
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for promoting a safe working environment which minimises risks and adheres to health and safety regulations. You will be required to work proactively with site teams to improve the site safety management system, improve safety behaviours and advise on suitable safety measures ensuring legal requirements are met. You will support the safe management of the site, controlling contractors and issuing permits to work where required.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be responsible for writing and reviewing risk assessments working with the site operational teams, ensuring all areas are assessed
- Work with site teams to produce and implement safe operating procedures
- Conduct investigations, record and update incident logs and coach site teams on corrective actions
- Develop and deliver safety training
- Create and maintain safety procedures, ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance
- Communicate and improve engagement in health and safety.
- Complete routine and ad hoc site inspections and audits, identifying and implementing improvements where required
- Maintain site metrics and produce management reports
- Be responsible for identifying PPE requirements, control and issue stock as needed
- Support the site health and safety committee
- Lead the site emergency response team including coordinating exercises and training activities
- Control contractors, arrange permits to work and identify/respond effectively to situations where external contractor assistance is required
- Support the company Health and Safety Manager in all safety matters
And will also:
- Have a positive attitude towards Health and Safety
- Have experience in a previous relevant health and safety role
- Be a team player who is organised and able to influence
- Be able to work on their own initiative, be able to multi-task and meet task deadlines
- Have the ability to develop and write clear, concise and accurate assessments and documents
- Have administrative abilities; a working knowledge of MS Office applications, the ability to use and develop spreadsheets and document control processes
- Be able to communicate and deal with a variety of people
- Be able to identify and implement risk reducing initiatives.
Qualification and professional experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and experience as a health and safety practitioner
- Experience of working in a safety role within the warehouse/logistics industry and /or vehicle maintenance is advantageous
